Karen Warner is the Leadership Coordination Director for the Baptist Union of New Zealand. She attends Eastgate Christian Centre, a Baptist church in Auckland.

A group of Baptist leaders, pastors and chaplains (the Code of Ethics and Conduct Advisory Group), has been working over the past two years to create a code of ethics and conduct for the Baptist Union of New Zealand.

The code’s purpose is to enhance wellbeing, safety and dignity for our faith communities and leaders.

The culmination of this work is the newly released Te Wao Tōtara, a Forest of Leaders: Code of Ethics and Conduct.

The draft version was approved for publication by our National Council in February, with final approval to be made at their August meeting. Te Wao Tōtara will then be approved for implementation as part of Baptist Registration commitments for 2026.

We look forward to celebrating this document together at our National Hui in November.
