“Te Hauhake Trust”
The Baptist Māori General Purpose Fund offers $500 – $1,000 grants to support Māori leadership development, outreach, community works and projects.

Applications must be received by Friday 25 September 2026. Results will be notified after the closing date.
The Hauhake Trust Fund is designed to uphold and promote the values and goals of Te Hauhake Trust within Te Hāhi Iriiri for te iwi Māori to:
- Support Baptist Māori leadership initiatives.
- Encourage the wairuatanga (spiritual growth) of our people.
- Advance the extension of God’s kingdom in Aotearoa.
- Strengthen the Kotahitanga o te Runanga o Te Hāhi Iriiri.
This fund serves as a general Church Ministry support fund for Baptist Māori ministries.
The purpose of this fund is to see the values and goals of Te Hauhake Trust worked out and supported within the Te Hāhi Iriiri for te iwi Māori. To see Baptist Māori leadership initiatives supported, to see growth in wairuatanga / spirituality of our people, to see extension of Gods kingdom here in Aotearoa and the Kotahitanga o te Runanga o te Hāhi Iriiri. The fund is a general Church Ministry support fund for Baptist Māori ministries.
All applicants must be affiliated with the Baptist Union of Churches of New Zealand. Eligible applicants include:
- Individual members of a Baptist Church
- Churches with the Baptist Union of New Zealand
- Associated entities, such as:
- Trusts connected to a Baptist Church
- Companies whose shares are held by the Baptist Union of New Zealand
Additionally, applicants must
- Provide proof of a valid bank account with their application for fund disbursement.
- Provide support from their Church or entity of approval of the application.
- Attach a statement of purpose or budget outlining their intended use of funds for stronger accountability.
Applicants must demonstrate alignment with at least one of the following criteria:
- Rangatiratanga – Leadership Development Grants
- Supports Baptist Māori community projects that develop leadership initiatives.
Applicants submit detailed budgets outlining proposed project costs. - Request applicants provide an outcomes-based report to measure impact for Hauhake Trust.
- Educational institutions or similar apply as directed in Theology scholarships.
- Wairuatanga – theology Scholarships
- Provides grants to Baptist Māori studying theology, covering:
- Course fees
- Study-related costs
- Applicants must provide proof of study costs (e.g., tuition invoice AND the bank account, both from the same provider).
- The payment date is after the census date of the registered institution.
- Scholarship cap per applicant ensures equitable distribution across eligible recipients is initiated at each funding round.
- He Hauhake – Mission & Outreach Grants
- Supports innovative initiatives or projects exploring new approaches to the mission among Māori.
- Applicants provide:
- Budget breakdown
- Clear explanation of how funding will be applied:
- Outline of the expected community impact,
- Align with Hauhake Trust mission initiatives, funding goals, and
- with measurable goals
- Kotahitanga – Fellowship & Discipleship Grants
- Provides funding to support gatherings of Baptist Māori, encouraging:
- Regional hui
- Fellowship and discipleship activities. Applicants to provide a budget and clear application of funds for event planning.
- Fund allocation clarity for single events or recurring gatherings to be applied for each funding round.
- All of the above to provide follow up progress report in 6 months and/or 12 month reports.
