Lisa Woolley is Tumu Whakarae chief executive of Visionwest. Chris Chamberlain is the National Leader of the Baptist union of New Zealand.

The Pre-Hui event Kingdom in the Community before the annual Baptist National Hui is all about God’s mission for the neighbourhood your church has been placed in. For a single day, we’ve planned just the right amount of inspiration, connection and practical exploration of ministry models from around the motu.

Be inspired by Tim Costello from Australia in the opening and closing keynote sessions. In between the start and finish will be six breakout panels exploring six ways of living out God’s mission in your neighbourhoods.

Before lunch, we’ll explore:

  • Baptists and Housing, hearing from representatives from housing organisations C.O.R.T, Te Puke Baptist Evergreen House, The Home Foundation, and Visionwest
  • Baptists and Good Mahi, talking with leaders from SALT Community Trust, Kaikohe Baptist Church, and South West Baptist Church about how they are loving their neighbours.
  • Baptists and Mental Health, looking at the ministry models of Visionwest, Windsor Park Baptist Church / Equip, and South West Baptist Church, loving people towards personal wellbeing.

After lunch, the options are:

  • Baptist Churches and Trusts, hearing the wisdom of experienced Baptist leaders and legal experts on how to maximise the potential of the church-trust relationship.
  • Baptists and Kai Security, exploring the mahi and models of Visionwest, Good Neighbour, and Hope Community Trust to help people towards being food secure.
  • Baptists and Treaty Partnership, drawing inspiration from the journeys of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, Motueka Baptist Church and Visionwest on faithful partnership under Te Tiriti.

There will be coordinated spaces to connect with collaborators on these causes. The final keynote session will feature a theological panel on the biblical ‘why’ behind our kingdom community mahi, with Tim Costello, Denise Tims, and George Wieland, followed by a discussion on building a coalition of neighbourhood mission, exploring practical possibilities for channeling time, resources and structures into this work as Baptists.

An incredibly rich day, putting frameworks and models into on-the-ground application. A day for ministry leaders, elders, trustees, pastors and anyone seeking to build and strengthen their mahi for God’s kingdom in their communities.

We warmly encourage you to join us,

Chris Chamberlain (Baptist National Leader)
