Our final week in 2 Samuel brings us to 2 Samuel 22, a song of David. In it we see many themes of the whole book. Five times in the chapter God is called a Rock. In these twenty verses we see that God is our refuge, God's responses to our cries, and that God rescues us. This is what we celebrate at Christmas: that God came into the world to save and rescue us. This is why we celebrate!

Last week journeying through 2 Samuel was all about adultery and murder; this week, in chapter 13 it's even harder: it's about rape. We see Tamar abused by four men. All of us are part Tamar, part Amnon, part Jonadab, part Absalom and part David. Each of us needs to come to Jesus for healing for past abuses, and to come to Jesus for forgiveness for being the abuser.

We reach chapters 11 & 12 in our 2 Samuel: The True King journey. This is all about David and his adultery with Bathsheba, and his subsequent murders to cover up his sin. We need to kill sin before it kills us something David failed to do. We get to rejoice in the grace of Jesus forgiving our sexual sins something David also experienced. Includes Psalm 51 arranged by Sons of Korah, played and sung by Christa's music team.

Martin describes the background to the extraordinary circumstances that Mephibosheth (a virtual outcast) was invited to be at King David's table. He relates the detail and importance of the Blood covenant in Genesis 21:21-34, 31:44-54 and Gen 15 and how that related to Davids invitation to Mephibosheth and ours to be children of God

We continue in our journey through 2 Samuel in chapter 6, a bizarre chapter all about the Ark of the Covenant. Many have questioned God because of what seems to be his harsh action over Uzzah here. Yet in the bigger picture we see that 2 Samuel 6 is all about our sin and the holiness of God; and that we celebrate that because of Jesus at the cross, our sin can be forgiven and we can forever be in the presence of God.

2 Samuel 5 is a montage of high points in the reign of King David. In it we see that David is a shepherd king and a warrior king, pointing us forward to Jesus the true Shepherd King and the true Warrior King. Jesus protects us and fights for us.
