About Us

South West Baptist Church (SWBC) is a presence-based church with a long history of engaging communities locally and globally, based in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our vision is:

“To be a redemptive community, sharing the love of Christ in the world, by word, sign and deed; helping people become lifelong followers of Jesus Christ.”

We acknowledge and work to honour our commitment to Te Tiriti partnership with Māori and encourage authentic journeys of faithfully following Jesus for Māori and others of diverse cultures.

Generations Pastor

We are seeking a Generations Pastor – a new role in the life of our church. This role will lead all children’s, youth, young adults and family areas of the church to proactively form faith across the younger generations including fostering intergenerational involvement.

As part of our Leadership Team, you’ll be reporting to and supported by our Senior Pastor. This involves contributing to and implementing South West Baptist’s spiritual and strategic direction, vision and values.  Our leadership role model the vision of SWBC as a whole-of-life commitment and are, first of all, followers of Jesus and active disciplers of others.

You will have robust biblical understanding of God’s missional bias to the poor and marginalised. You will be a leader of leaders, a communicator who enjoys working in and with mission-minded teams, handling complexity and leading through change toward shared missional action. Ideally you’ve had experience preaching too.

This role will have high visibility and influence – your leadership will be both big picture and with a thorough knowledge and involvement on the ground. You’ll be equipping, supporting and empowering our 0-25s, their families and communities to grow in their relationship with God, with themselves, with each other and the world, weaving them into the life of our church journey.

We have teams of people who are responsible for each of these areas, so you’ll be a strong team leader and manager, who can also identity and develop future leaders.

This role is for up to 40 hours a week, but this can be negotiated for our successful candidate.
