About this role

0.5-1.0 full time

Māngere Bridge Baptist Church is a culturally and generationally diverse local community church embedded within the suburb of Māngere Bridge in Auckland. We are looking for someone to join our Pastoral Team with a particular focus on the tamaraki and whānau of our church and wider community.

The ideal candidate for this role will:

  • Have a deep love of Jesus and passion for the Church.
  • Carry a strong sense of call to pastorally serve our children and families as part of an integrated model of discipleship and faith development.
  • Be familiar with and excited by the ‘Foundations of Ministry and Mission with Children and Families’ (baptistcfm.org.nz/foundations).
  • Demonstrate strong theological competency in support of the position.
  • Have a gifting for working across cultures.
  • Be a team player and capable leader and developer of teams; working alongside the existing pastoral team and ministry leaders to achieve the desired outputs of the ministry.
  • Carry a heart for children and families beyond the walls of the church, helping us to serve our wider community through strategic kingdom-shaped initiatives.

The role encompasses three broad areas of focus:

  1. The facilitation and development of our current Bridge Kids (ages 3 to year 6) ministry, including all areas of programming, delivery of material, responsibility for the volunteer leaders, oversight of Health and Safety and key oversight of pastoral care for our tamariki and their families.
  2. A focus on helping us develop and implement systems of intergenerational discipleship – both within the worship rhythms of our church, but also with special attention to the home life of our families during the week.
  3. Collaboration and development alongside other ministry leaders in the outward facing work of our church in the community including:
  • Providing key leadership and support to current externally facing Children and Family ministries e.g. Mainly Music.
  • Initiating family focussed programming through the church in service of the community (e.g. parenting courses, holiday programming).
  • Helping to plan and facilitate key community-facing events (e.g Annual Block Party).
  • Exploring connection with our local primary schools in helping us to position ourselves in service to the families of our community.

At 0.5-0.75 scale, the expectation is for primary focus on numbers 1 and 2, with all three pieces being essential to the fulfilment of the 1.0 full-time position.
